Green Bank

Green Bank is a community bank run by people who call Texas home and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Houston-based Green Bancorp, Inc. With office locations in Houston and Austin, we embrace innovation and focused customer care to deliver high-touch and high-tech banking services.

In the Community

Making Paper Recycling Easy for All – Green Bank is the only commercial business in Houston to have a paper recycling dumpster that is open for public use. We’ve set aside spaces in our Greenbriar parking lot for the bin because the neighborhoods immediately south of us do not offer curb-side recycling!

Community Computer Recycling — Santa brings a lot of computers; but he rarely takes the old ones away. Sadly, about 80 percent of old home-based computer equipment ends up in local landfills. During the week of New Year’s, Green Bank collects computers with Techs and Trainers, a local non-profit organization. Donated machines are refurbished and sold at almost no cost to disabled Houstonians. Computers beyond repair are safely and properly recycled locally. www.techsandtrainers.org

One Stop for all Green Events — Houstonians are a can-do bunch; our local green community is always working and improving. Through a donation to the Citizen’s Environmental Coalition, www.cechouton.org, we’re able to help provide a single calendar listing for all green events happening in the Houston area. Open to all organizations, the calendar is an effective tool for keeping the city involved.

Donations to Green Organizations — We want all green organization in Houston to achieve their mission. We are piloting some new ideas that will allow us to help all 96 agencies in the Citizens’ Environmental Coalition:

  • 50k/$50 CD — For every $50,000 invested in 12-month or longer CDs, Green Bank will donate $50 to any non-profit that is a member of the Citizens’ Environmental Coalition.

  • Check Out Houston’s Green Groups — Open a business or personal checking or money market account and Green Bank will donate $50 to any non-profit that is a member of the Citizens’ Environmental Coalition.

Client's Changing Needs

Online Banking – A good online banking system is the easiest way to reduce paper usage. A tremendous success, we provide a fully-optioned online banking to all customers at no cost.

Online Bill Payment – Once you try online bill pay, you will never go back to writing checks and licking stamps. You will also be surprised how you save in postage, paper and time.

e-Statements – One of the first banks to offer e-statements, Green Bank convinced more clients to try electronic statements when we discontinued the option to receive printed and e-statements and eliminated the token reward for choosing e-statements. Green Bank customers must choose one or the other and are reminded the benefits of electronic statements. We’re happy to note that most choose e-statements.

ACH Payroll – Business customers like electronic payroll because of the reduced paper/postage expenses. Employees like it because it is fast and safe.


Products

Simple Account Structure – Green Bank offers a single consumer (someone like you and me) and two business checking accounts. There is one money market account for all customers. We have taken a closet of printed material and reduced it to a cabinet. It has also significantly reduced the number of monthly reports we print for review.

Building Green, Saving Green Mortgage – We have a new mortgage option for LEED and Energy Star homes. The program rewards home owners’ who have chosen to invest in money-saving new-construction homes and townhomes that meet “green” standards. Depending on the size of the home mortgage, clients will receive an annual gift ($1,000 or $500) for the first five years of green home ownership.

RE-Building Green Home Improvement Loan – Green Bank rewards customers who have chosen to invest in money- and resource-saving remodeling choices for homes and townhomes. Homeowners who incorporate a punch list of changes receive an annual gift for the first five years while they enjoy lower utility bills and a more comfortable home.


Behind the Scenes

Leading the way with LEED – Our new headquarters building is LEED Gold-Certified. Besides a great place to work, it is a daily reminder of what we’re about. Built to minimize resource consumption, we are monitoring utility consumption, use rainwater for irrigating native plants and working with our employees to walk lighter than our peers.

Recycling and Green Cleaning – All of our branches recycle. Besides paper, we collect cardboard, plastic and aluminum cans. Confidential paper materials are shredded through a company that also recycles. Additionally, our cleaning crews use green products to minimize toxic materials going down the drain or out in the trash.

Electronic Reporting – Green Bank has replaced daily courier service between branches with scans and electronic delivery of daily reports, receipts and back-up materials. Besides paper and envelopes, we are saving countless miles of driving.

Inter-Branch Courier – Our courier drives a Toyota Prius. The shuttle sips gasoline and is a nice reminder of how we’re different.

e-Payroll/Expense Reimbursement – All of our employees receive paychecks and expense reimbursement electronically. This service is available to our business customers, too.


Technology

Convenience Deposits - We have an agreement with a large, national bank where clients can make deposits into their Green Bank accounts. Bank location or drive time is no longer a major decision point—our clients can focus on Green Bank’s mission, services and technology and the extra value we add.

Remote deposit - Having a client drive to the bank to deposit one or two checks a month is contrary to Green Bank’s mission. We provide check scanners to business account customers. Currently, we are working on a system that will allow all clients to use the scanners on their home computers to make check deposits.
